HISTORY OF ALBERT GEORGE BRANCH LIBRARY
Albert George Branch Library opened in November 1974, and was named for Fort Bend County philanthropist Albert George. The George family was very important to the early
development of the Fort Bend County library system. The George Foundation funded construction of the original 4,900-square-foot library, designed by Wylie W. Vale & Associates, Wylie W. Vale, Design Architect. The land for the library site was donated by the Needville Chamber of Commerce and the Needville Lion's Club. In 1997, the branch was renovated with bond funds to include a new entrance, meeting room and restroom facilities, bringing the total square footage to 6,680.
FRIENDS OF THE ALBERT GEORGE BRANCH LIBRARY
The Friends of Albert George Branch Library was organized to support the branch with extra funds for things not provided for in the county budget. The group has an ongoing booksale in the branch, and over the years, the organization has purchased a U.S. flag and a Texas flag (with poles) for the meeting room, purchase trophies for the Summer Reading Club, and provided funds for book-range display shelving. They also provide the branch with funds for supplies and programming for the Summer Reading Club.
