Adopt Healthier Lifestyle Choices for the New Year

Did you resolve to turn over a new leaf in 2019 by making healthier lifestyle choices, such as eating better or exercising more? Get inspiration and encouragement at some of the programs planned at two of our libraries in February! The classes are free and open to the public, and reservations are not required.

  • Healthy-Living Revolution – Healthy Happy Hour
Sugar Land Branch Library, Mondays, Feb 11 and 18, 6:00-7:00 pm, Meeting Room.

Learn how to take better care of yourself with a few healthy-eating tips from lifestyle coach Deborah Bradford. Hear about healthier alternatives to eating fast food, processed-food snacks, and sugary drinks. Get ideas for simple, nutritious, and affordable snacks and meals for the whole family. During the program, Bradford will demonstrate how to use different ingredients to make smoothies, snacks, or cleansing drinks.

In addition to being a lifestyle coach, Bradford is a yoga instructor, wellness concierge, and blogger on “Sixty with a 50-Year Plan.”

  • Kick the Sugar Habit
Sugar Land Branch Library, Tuesday, Feb 12, 6:00-8:00 pm, Meeting Room.

Certified health and life coach Valerie Coyle will explain the effects of sugar on one’s body and why it can be challenging to eliminate sugar in one’s diet. Learn about high-fructose corn-syrup, food that spikes one’s blood sugar and creates a “blood-sugar roller-coaster,” and subsequent results on the insulin and glucagon hormones. Get tips on how to transform sugar cravings and adopt a healthier diet.

  • Balanced Living
Cinco Ranch Branch Library, Thursdays, Feb 14, 21, 28; Mar 7 and 14; 6:00-7:00 pm, Meeting Room.

Courtney Bryant, Family and Community Health Extension Agent with Prairie View A&M University Cooperative Extension, will present a 5-part series of daily-living classes for adults. Get tips on how to live a healthier lifestyle by addressing time management, stress, physical activity, and mindfulness.
