Discover Animated Children’s Picture Books in the TumbleBook Library Online Collection

The TumbleBook Library is a digital collection of online children’s books available on the library’s website. These animated, talking picture books and graphic novels are presented in an innovative and exciting format that helps children to read, build vocabulary, and have fun at the same time. This collection is recommended for children from pre-K through grade 6.

The TumbleBook Library may be found in the eLibrary on FBCL’s website, and can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection, whether at the library, at school, or at home. More than 1100 books are available, and the collection includes current favorites as well as classics like Anne of Green Gables. Modern popular titles include Flora & Ulysses, by Kate DiCamillo, and series such as Geronimo Stilton, Ivy & Bean, and much more. Children who are more interested in reading about real animals, people or places may explore the selection of nonfiction books that are available.

The books are particularly helpful for new readers, reluctant readers, or ESL (English as a Second Language) readers. Children may read along as the story is read to them, or they may choose to mute the sound and read at their own pace. Puzzles, games, and videos that relate to the stories add an interactive element to the books, and increase the fun!

More-advanced readers may enjoy the Read-Alongs or downloadable e-books and audiobooks, which include classic chapter-books like Black Beauty, Peter Pan, and The Wizard of Oz. Students who participate in the Accelerated Reader program for school will find the reading level and point-value for each book shown on the Read-Along book’s information page. Accelerated Reader points are not available for e-books or audiobooks.

TumbleBook Library includes a growing number of books available in Spanish and French. Some of the titles are available in the bilingual format, allowing the user to read the book in two languages. A language drop-down menu on the TumbleBook Library homepage enables users to view the entire website in Spanish or French. Once the specific language is selected, instructions, details, and descriptions of books all appear in Spanish or French.

The TumbleBook Library also includes TumbleMath -- children's books about numerous math topics. Click on the TumbleMath link at the top of the TumbleBook Library page to be taken to another database, filled with the most comprehensive collection of math-related picture books available online. Topics range from counting and measurement to geometry and finance, and all selections are always available.
