“Discovery Dome” Family Event at Sugar Land Branch Library

The Sugar Land Branch Library will present a special Summer Reading Challenge family event, “HMNS Discovery Dome: Black Holes,” on Saturday, June 22, between 2:00 and 4:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library.

This event for the Summer Reading Challenge’s “Universe of Stories” will have everyone discovering the mysteries of black holes – some of the most, awe-inspiring phenomena in the universe. In the Houston Museum of Natural Science’s portable, planetarium-style theater, explore the latest scientific knowledge about black holes in a show that is visually immersive and very exciting. What is a black hole? Where do they come from? How do we find them? Is there one in Earth’s neighborhood? Learn the answers to these questions and much more!

The show is 30 minutes long, and will be repeated every 30 minutes. The film is suitable for youth in grades 5-12, but families with children of all ages are welcome to attend.

This program is made possible by the generous support of the Friends of Sugar Land Branch Library. Proceeds from the Friends of the Library book sales and annual membership dues help to underwrite the costs of special programming and various cultural events at the First Colony Branch Library.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Sugar Land Branch Library (281-238-2140) or the library system’s Communications Office (281-633-4734).
