In recognition of Texas History Month in March, the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library will present a program on “The Texas Rangers” on Monday, March 4, beginning at 6:00 pm, in the Meeting Room of the library.
Dr. Nicholas Cox, a professor of U.S. and Texas History at Houston Community College, will discuss the history of the Texas Rangers organization in each of its major phases, from the early settlements, the antebellum/Civil War era, and the frontier period to the modern law-enforcement program that it is today. He will also share highlights on particular episodes of conflict and on prominent Rangers over the years.
Dr. Cox received his doctorate degree in U.S. History from the University of Houston. In addition to teaching Texas history at Houston Community College, Dr. Cox has taught at the Bronx Academy of Letters in New York City and the University of Houston. He is a member of the Southern Historical Association, the Texas State Historical Association, and the Fort Bend County Historical Commission.
