cloudLibrary eBook and eAudiobook FAQ

cloudLibrary (formerly 3M Cloud Library) is a service offered by Fort Bend County Libraries that gives cardholders a selection of eBooks and eAudiobooks to borrow at no cost. Digital items return automatically and there are never any late fees.

  • A valid library card (with less than $5.00 in fines) and password (PIN).
  • Access to the Internet.
  • For downloads, the software (app) for your specific type of computer or mobile device. Click here for information about cloudLibrary apps.
  • eBooks and eAudiobooks from cloudLibrary can also be used in your online browser from the FBCL's cloudLibrary webpage without the need to download them to a mobile device.
  • You may also need a valid email address in case you place an item on hold and want to be notified when your titles are available for checkout.

To log in to cloudLibrary's app or webpage, you will use your Fort Bend County Libraries card number (fourteen digits with no spaces) and the password associated with your FBCL library card. If you don't remember your FBCL library card password, you can request a temporary password by clicking on "Forgot your password?" here.

You can search for titles in the FBCL catalog and check them out from there, or you can search in the cloudLibrary website or app.

Open and log in to the app or the cloudLibrary website and navigate to "My Books." If you check out by using the library catalog, you will be directed to the website or app to proceed with your borrow.

You can have 5 cloudLibrary items checked-out at one time.

eBooks and eAudiobooks borrowed from cloudLibrary return after 14 days. All items return automatically, so there are never any late fees.

All items return automatically but if, for example, you have 5 items checked out and you want to return one so that you can check out a different fifth item, you will find a “return” or “check in” option next to the title in your Library Catalog “My Account” Items Out tab or in the “My Books” section of the cloudLibrary webpage or under the My Books Return tab of the app.

All items return automatically at the end of the loan period, but if no other users have placed a hold on the item, you can simply check it out again. If there are holds on the item, you can put your name on the waiting list to get the book again when it is available. You can easily re-check or place holds on your returned items via the History tab of the app.

cloudLibrary eBooks and eAudiobooks are licensed for use by one borrower at a time, so in some cases users may have place a hold and wait for access to the most popular titles.

You can have 5 cloudLibrary items on hold at one time.

Items being held for you in cloudLibrary will wait 72 hours (3 days) for you to check them out before your held item is removed from your account. If you miss checking out that held item, you may check it out anyway if it is available or place it on hold again.

Items being held for you in cloudLibrary can be viewed in the “My Books” section of the cloudLibrary webpage or under the My Books Holds tab of the app. Each title should display the maximum number of days until the item is available. During the last 24 hours of that period, the message will say that the hold will be "available today."

Check out any item and it will appear under “My Books” in your cloudLibrary app. Tap the cover to download the title. You only need to do this once per checkout.

If you open your cloudLibrary app but receive an error message when trying to borrow, please ensure that your library card has not expired and that you do not owe more than $5.00 in library fines and fees. You can check your library card account by logging in to My Account at If you have replaced your library card since the last time you borrowed from cloudLibrary, please go to your app settings and replace the stored library card barcode number with your new barcode.
