Coin-Collecting Workshop at George Memorial Library

George Memorial Library in Richmond will present an introductory program for anyone interested in starting the hobby of coin collecting. The program, “Coin Collecting 101,” will take place on Saturday, September 21, from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm, in Room 2A.

Numismatist T.L. Smith will provide a basic overview of the different types of coins minted in the United States, and how to go about starting a coin collection. He will also discuss the different types of marks to look for on coins, how to grade coins, and how to protect and preserve the coins.

Smith will also talk more specifically about Franklin Half Dollars. Learn what to look for in Mint Sets and in Proof Sets, and gain a better understanding of the grading that should be considered with both types. He will also discuss belt lines.

Smith has been a collector and dealer of coins for more than 30 years.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call George Memorial Library (281-342-4455) or the library system’s Communications office (281-633-4734).
