Join us for an informative lecture by Dr. Nicholas Cox, a professor from Houston Community College with a PhD. in 19th Century Southern History.

Dr. Cox will examine the emergence of an enslaved, black majority in antebellum Fort Bend, discuss the impact of the Civil War and abolition on the county, and trace the early efforts by the County's African American community to serve in the post-war county administration and government. Topics such as plantation slavery, abolition, the freedmen's experiences, and emerging convict lease system will be addressed.
