Join us for a discussion with Dr. Natalie Garza about the men who explored Texas and the Southwest in the 16th century, including figures such as Cabeza de Vaca and Hernando de Soto in Texas, Diego de Guzman in Arizona, Fr. de Niza and Juan de Onate in New Mexico, and Fr. Juniper Serra and Jose de Galvez in 18th century California. Included in this discussion are the motivations for explorations, examining interactions with the Natives, and the colonial systems established to lay claim to these areas.
